Why Do We Recommend THCKCS Communities?
Where It All Began
In 2018, I joined my first canine health community on Facebook, driven by a desire to learn more and do better for my new Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppy. Little did I know that decision would shape the path I’m on today. That group was The Healthy Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (THCKCS), founded by Marita Tilley. I soon became a part of the team, and my close friendship with Marita inspired me to delve deeper into canine health. Her passion for Cavaliers and commitment to their wellbeing motivated me to pursue my own studies, qualifications, and ventures over the last six years.
While I’m no longer part of the THCKCS team, the group and its community will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s where I found my footing in canine health and wellness, and I wholeheartedly recommend the THCKCS communities to any Cavalier owner looking for support, knowledge, and a sense of belonging.
About The Healthy Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (THCKCS)
In 2015, Marita Tilley founded one of Facebook’s largest and most impactful breed-specific canine health communities: The Healthy Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Cavaliers are sadly burdened with numerous serious health conditions, making it crucial to arm owners with information and support to help their beloved dogs thrive. This group became a beacon for Cavalier lovers, providing a space to share ideas, explore research, and learn how to care for these wonderful dogs as naturally as possible, for as long as possible.
Marita’s journey into health and wellness began long before THCKCS. She previously ran the Natural Health School of Complementary Therapies, an ITEC-registered college specializing in Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, and holistic therapies. Over seven years, the school trained hundreds of students in techniques such as reflexology, neuromuscular therapy, Indian head massage, and pregnancy massage, to name a few.
Marita’s passion for natural health extended into her work at her son’s chiropractic office, where she witnessed firsthand how fresh diets, exercise, and chiropractic care transformed lives. It was during this time that inspiration struck. Reflecting on the challenges Cavaliers face, Marita had what she describes as a “light bulb moment.” She realized our dogs need the same holistic care and lifestyle changes that benefit humans. That night, she leaped out of the bath, grabbed her computer, and began building the community that would become THCKCS.
Today, THCKCS remains a cornerstone of Cavalier health advocacy, and its impact on the breed is undeniable. If you’re a Cavalier owner seeking expert advice and a warm, supportive community, THCKCS is the perfect place to start your journey.
The very first member of The Healthy Cavalier King Charles Spaniel group was Helen Ostle. From that moment in 2015, under Marita Tilley’s passionate leadership, the group has grown into a thriving community of over 60,000 members. Thanks to Marita’s vision and dedication, so many Cavaliers have benefited, often from the smallest changes their loving owners have made. I’ve personally seen stories of very sick dogs making remarkable recoveries and going on to thrive when introduced to fresh food diets and natural care approaches—an ethos Marita has always championed.
One of the things Marita and the team have always stressed is that every Cavalier is unique. What works for one dog may not work for another, so it’s vital to take a holistic view when offering guidance. The group’s advice never replaces veterinary care, and Marita has always made it clear that owners must seek professional help if their dog is unwell. However, the group is a source of incredible support and knowledge for Cavalier owners, empowering them to make informed, thoughtful decisions for their dogs.
A phrase that embodies the heart of the group is: “When we know better, we do better.” Marita’s commitment to education has been the cornerstone of the group’s success, helping pet parents make meaningful changes to their dogs’ lives.
Since day one, Marita’s mission has been clear—to help Cavaliers live longer, healthier lives, free from pain. She has poured her heart into creating a space where owners can come together, share knowledge, and support one another in caring for this extraordinary breed. Cavaliers are truly special, and thanks to Marita’s leadership, THCKCS continues to be a place where their health and happiness remain the top priority. I can confidently say it’s a community every Cavalier parent should know about.
